What is the difference between a cable float switch and an M15-3 float-ball switch?

A cable float switch tilts with the liquid level and houses a micro-switch inside the float; cable length and counter-weight set the operating level. An M15-3 float-ball switch is a fixed-shape float with internal reed / micro-switch, suspended by a single cable and rated for larger pumps (16A).

Can these float switches drive pumps directly?

Yes – the 10A cable-float and 16A M15-3 switches can start single-phase pumps up to about 1.5kW at 250V without needing an external contactor.

Are they mercury-free?
